  1. Happy 248th Birthday to the USA!
  2. Mother Nature is starting to turn against the Forest sector, as Lightning has sparked a number of fires in Northern Alberta.
    Alberta Wildfire is reporting that 12 of the 15 fires burning around John D’or Prairie, Fox Lake, and Zama City were caused by electrical storms.
    Even though the fires are a number of kilometres away from the settlements, and are small in size, forest officials are saying the blazes in question are not posing a risk to communities.
  3. A missing person case from the long weekend has ended happily.
    46 year-old Sandra Metsikassus has been found by multiple search teams, including Alberta Search and Rescue and volunteers from Tallcree, Little Red River, Beaver, and Peerless Trout.
  4. The provinces of Alberta and the Northwest Territories are forming an agreement to drive economic growth and create jobs.
    One key connection includes the use and upkeep of Highway 35, as well as the Canadian National Railway network between the NWT and High Level.
  5. The United Nurses of Alberta has asked Mental Health and Addictions Minister Dan Williams for a copy of the Ministerial Order formally establishing Recovery Alberta.
    The UNA say the order was provided to AHS, but not other Unions impacted by the transfer of AHS Employees to Recovery Alberta.
  6. Alberta’s Government has reversed course on its decision to terminate its agreement with Legal Aid Alberta, promising to extend the current funding arrangement while negotiations for a new deal continue.
    Trial lawyers warned earlier this week that the government’s action would “trigger a complete breakdown of an already overtaxed and under-resourced system.”
  7. Wheatbelt Baseball League tonight… Grande Prairie plays Manning in Grimshaw, and Rycroft plays in Sexsmith.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays finish off their four-game set with Houston this afternoon. Chris Bassitt starts for the Jays against Framber Valdez.
  9. Week 5 of the CFL season starts tonight. Toronto plays in Saskatchewan. Ottawa is in Winnipeg tomorrow, Calgary is in Montreal Saturday, BC is in Hamilton on Sunday.
  10. Summer conditions are hitting the Northwest starting this afternoon. There is a slight chance of showers, with a risk of a thunderstorm, but numbers will be nudging the mid 20’s into this weekend.
    Clouds will begin to burn off this weekend, and digits will be in the 30’s by Tuesday.
