  1. Municipal Councils are meeting today.
    Big Lakes County this morning, Manning this afternoon, Grimshaw this evening.
  2. Brush piles continues to burn north of Valleyview.
    The MD of Greenview is conducting these burns for this week in that area.
  3. Both the Peace River School Division and the Grande Prairie Catholic School Division are working together on a new joint-use facility in Fairview.
    Both Boards passed a motion adding a new joint-use K-9 facility for GPCSD and K-6 facility for PRSD as a priority item on their capital plans.
  4. An association representing child-care centres across the Peace Region, is calling on the federal and provincial governments to provide emergency funding as the deadline to sign the Affordability Grant Agreement looms.
    The Association of Alberta Childcare Entrepreneurs says the plan will produce significant financial shortfalls for facilities across the province.
  5. The Alberta Medical Association is demanding the provincial government take immediate action to keep family medical practices alive over the next six months.
    AMA president Dr. Paul Parks says many practices are existing “payday to payday” and having trouble making lease payments.
  6. A captain with Edmonton Fire Rescue Service is accused of possessing, accessing and making available child sexual abuse materials.
    He was arrested on Jan. 16.  He’s due in court in February in Morinville.
  7. The Bank of Canada held its key interest rate at five per cent Wednesday and signalled it has begun discussing when it should start cutting rates.
    Weaker economic growth along with slowing inflation has allowed the central bank to hold its policy rate steady and monitor how the economy is responding to higher rates.
  8. Ford is recalling 93,000 Explorer vehicles in Canada due to an exterior part that may be loose, missing or become detached and create a hazard for other drivers on the road.
    Reports state some of these vehicles did not have their A-pillar trim clips attached properly due to improper assembly or repair.
  9. Eight teams have arrived to the Provincial Women’s Curling Championships in St. Paul.
    The first draw is 6:30 tonight, with Nam[pa’s Kayla Skrlik plays against Nicky Kaufman of Edmonton.
  10. One game in the NWJHL tonight.
    Beaverlodge is in Peace River… The Blades are fifth in the League, while Navs are sixth, just two points behind.
  11. Three Canadian teams hit the ice in the NHL tonight…
    Winnipeg is in Toronto, and St. Louis is in Vancouver.
  12. Digits will continue going up as the week progresses, with them staying in the minus teens today and tonight, except -6 in the Big Lakes today.
    A chance of flurries is still present in the Mackenzie, and then will totally clear off heading into Friday.
