Our Subway Athlete of the Month for December is Tannis Coen.

She’s the coach of the junior A girls volleyball team at Grimshaw Public School. She says their season started out slow, but got better as they went along.

“We had a lot of first year players that really had never played volleyball before. They worked really hard together and by the end of the season I had confidence in every one of my athletes and we finished with a lot of wins and very close games at the end and were second in the league.”

The team was awarded the Junior A league sportsmanship banner this year for their strong coaching, positive attitude, team support and strong competitive attitude at games and tournaments.

“That’s something you always strive to make sure that the kids are having fun and doing their best and having good sportsmanship on the court. When they do that, it seems like they’re learning more than just skills on the court but skills for the future too.”

Congratulations Tannis on the work you’ve done with your team.
