Sonic 3 is the 3rd film in the Sonic film franchise 4th total entry with the Knuckles limited series on Paramount+, and it did not disappoint. The film sees Jim Carrey doing double duty playing two Robotnik’s and adds the voice of Keanu Reeves to the cast in what is the best installment yet in the video game based franchise.

A great story is told with the introduction of beloved character Shadow (voiced by Reeves) as he and Gerald Robotnik are out for revenge against G.U.N for a tragedy 50 years ago. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are sent to stop Shadow once he is freed from a G.U.N prison. The story has some fun and touching moments weaved through to create an amazing family film.

The film’s comedy is primarily coming from Carrey’s performance as both Ivo and Gerald and Idris Elba’s voicing of Knuckles. The performances by Carrey and Idris are spectacular while the charisma that just comes from Reeve’s Shadow just make the movie so much better. Keanu’s take on Shadow is almost a John Wick hedgehog, so be prepared for gritty dialogue (for a kids film) and action from his character.

The film I feel could’ve cleared up one or two things but ultimately this is a can’t miss movie for anyone and everyone, with hilarious material and great story I cannot wait to see where Sonic 4 takes us in 2027.

Heads up there is a mid credit and post credit scene to watch.

Final Grade 8.5/10
