The Province’s Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation is encouraging small businesses impacted by the health restrictions to apply for the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant.

Doug Schweitzer was on the Trending 55 Hot Seat and says it’s a similar application process to the earlier versions of the relaunch grant.

“To be eligible, your revenues simply have to drop 30% due to health measures. That’s the qualifications and you can qualify for up to an additional $10,000 right now. This will be $30,000 total, we had $20,000 of support that went through to the end of March, and this is a brand new tranche of support of up to $10,000 for small businesses.”

Schweitzer says this grant (SMERG) will be open until the end of May.

“We anticipate that with the current uptick in vaccinations, we’re up close to about 30% of Alberta’s population having received at least their first dose. Based of data we’ve seen in other countries we’ve seen in other countries like Israel, the US and the UK, once you get to that point, a couple of weeks later you start to see the beginning of herd immunity to take hold in a community.”
