This week on the River Country Ag Show we got to chat with Nasar Iqbal, the Manager of Agricultural Services with the MD of Peace.

We spoke with Iqbal about two things happening within the MD of Peace that he recommends more people should learn about.

Our main topic of conversation was about the MD’s Shelterbelt Program they are offering to those living within it’s limits. Ratepayers in the MD of Peace can order trees with the municipality from Fairview’s Woodmere Nursery at a lower cost.

Iqbal noted there are many different kinds of shelterbelts and species that can be planted depending on it’s purpose. “Around buildings, it reduces 18-25% fuel costs, protecting the house from wind and snow, there are lots of benefits of having shelterbelts the farmstead and house.” Iqbal explained. The Shelterbelt Program runs until March 25, 2022.

The MD is also excited to host a Ratepayers Appreciation Night on Friday April 8, 2022, at the Grimshaw Royal Canadian Legion. Iqbal says not many people have had the chance to connect or network over the past two years. “We (MD) thought this would be a great opportunity for people to come together.” The event is free but those wanting to attend need to RSVP by calling the MD office by April 1, 2022.
