It’s been a difficult year for everyone. For some, it’s been a complete disaster.
This holiday season, let’s help make things a little better for a family or child in need. Let’s show them we care by supporting our local toy drive, food drive and hamper programs. We’ve listed information on regional intiatives below.

Peace River & Grimshaw – Salvation Army Toys for Tots & Kettle programs
The Peace River Salvation Army branch is once again be collecting toys and non perishable food items for those in need. Collection will run November 2 through December 12 at participating depots including;
Peace River – Canadian Tire, Bargain Store, Mint Health & Drugs, Peavey Mart, Freson Bros., Value Drug Mart, Walmart, Salvation Army, and River Country – KIX FM studios
Berwyn – Berwyn Pharmacy
Grimshaw – Rexall Drugs
The Salvation Army is also collecting monetary donations through their Kettle Campaign at Walmart, Freson Bros. and Peace Country Co-op.

Peace River Women’s Shelter 12 Days of Christmas
The Peace River Regional Women’s Shelter is a vital part our community, providing emergency shelter to women and children, plus outreach services to adults and youth within our region. They’re asking for your support as they near completion of their Second Stage Housing project.
Due to Covid, there’ll be no formal Festival of Tress, but you can make a donation through their 12 days of Christmas fundraiser December 1-12.

Mackenzie Region Programs
Through December 5th, donate a new unwrapped toy at the High Level Bargain Store and help them Fill the Sleigh!
To apply for a Christmas Hamper, contact the High Level Native Friendship Centre 780-926-3355 or stop by no later than December 11.
Fort Vermilion – La Crete FCSS is now accepting Toy donations at the Pioneer Pharmasave.
La Crete – La Crete Support Services will be collecting Toys throughout the holiday season at La Crete Home Hardware. The Fire Department will be assisting the campaign with a toy drive December 5 at the La Crete Bargain Shop.
Nampa/Northern Sunrise County FCSS is collecting new and/or gently used mittens, toques, and coats for those in need.
Donations will be accepted until December 18, 2020. To donate please call your local FCSS Office in Northern Sunrise County and the Village of Nampa.
2020 has seen an increase in the use of food banks, especially by young families. During this time of the pandemic, uncertainty, and the Christmas season, thank you for your generosity, volunteering where needed, and providing financial and grocery donations.
Need a hand? Snow Angels signs are available for residents who need assistance clearing their snow. A snow Angel sign can be especially helpful to older adults, people with limited mobility and anyone needing help temporarily.
Have time to volunteer? If you see a Snow Angels sign on your neighbour’s lawn, lend them a hand. Snow Angels encourages volunteers to shovel snow for people who are unable to clear their own sidewalk.
Get a sign for your lawn or sign up to volunteer by calling Community Services (780) 624-1000 ext. 1030.
Fill a gift bag and bring cheer to senior who may be feeling isolated during the holiday season. Program begins November 16, filled bags must be returned by December 14. For more contact Peace River FCSS 780-624-1000.
If you or someone you know is low income and will need a Christmas hamper this year, the Big Lakes Chrstmas Angles can help. Appliations available at all County FCSS offices. Deadline to apply is December 15, 2020.

Fairview Food Bank
The Fairview Food Bank will be accepting donations directly at the Food Bank in The Mall on Main on Saturday December 5, 2020 from 9am-5pm. *Due to Covid, the Food Bank will not be working out of the Fire Department this year and First Responders will not be going door to door.
The Hines Creek Bottle Depot will also be hosting a Food and Toy Drive for the Fairview Food Bank on Friday December 4 from 1-8pm and saturday December 5 from 10:30am-5pm. Proceeds from bottle returns can also be desginated to the Food Bank during the Food/Toy drive.
High Prairie – Santa’s Little Helper Christmas Adopt-a-Family
The Children’s Resource Council in High Prairie is now accepting sponsorship forms and donations for this year’s Adopt a Family Sponsorship charity program.
