The Peace River School Division, among others, is saying ‘thank you’ to bus drivers.

The division is joining the Alberta Student Transportation Advisory Council (ASTAC) has chosen the theme ‘My Driver, My Hero.’

PRSD Transportation Manager David Rushton tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that he believes bus drivers are underrated.

“Getting kids to school safely is only a small part of their job,” says Rushton.

“Some of our school bus drivers have been around for over 40 years.”

Rushton also points in some cases that the first person a child talks to in the morning is their bus driver.

“They are underrated and this is just a time to say ‘thank you” to them,” he says.

According to the school division, its bus drivers transport around 2,900 students 10,813 square kilometres each day.
