With the province now into Stage 3 of its pandemic reopening plan, things are staring to return to normal and the Safe Summer Strategies Program is returning for summer 2021.

The Peace Regional RCMP Community Advisory Committee is partnering with local RCMP, Peace Officers, as well as Fire and Rescue to hand out positive tickets to both adults and children that show positive and safe behaviours. The “tickets” will be donated by local business’ in Peace River in the form of $10 gift cards for adults while summer treats will be awarded to children.

Both the adult and child positive ticket initiatives will be conducted as a regional program while a third initiative, Lock it or Lose it, will only take place in the Town of Peace River.

Orren Ford, Committee Member and Town Councillor, says “When it comes to the little kids , the nice thing about [the program] is it gives both our members and our peace officers a chance to interact positively with the youth and make them feel safe when they need to approach a uniformed officer.” Ford continued to say, “This is not just a Town of Peace River thing, this is regional. As we all know, crime doesn’t stay within our municipal boundaries. These positive tickets will be handed out throughout the peace regional detachment’s area”.

The Lock it or Lose it program will be conducted on select weekends during the summer for 1.5 hours at a time. Vehicles at risk for theft will be observed as a way to promote vehicles being safely secured when unattended. Freson Brothers, Peace Country Co-op and Canadian Tire gave permission for their parking lots to be observed on the select dates.
