Rain Not Going to Stop Pride Festivities in Peace River

This weekend Peace River will be full of Pride events come rain or shine.

The festivities will begin tonight with the Drag Nite and Dance at the Sawridge Inn Ballroom. Peace River Pride Society’s Vice President Sherri Hilton says everyone is welcome at the dance, which will be headlined by Iceis Rain.

On Saturday the Pride Parade will kick off at noon on 98 Avenue and Main Street. The parade will go through downtown and end at the Riverfront Park where there will be a free BBQ with live music. Hilton says you don’t need to worry about rain cancelling the parade.

“We have been in the rain before,” says Hilton. “The parade’s rain or shine.”

After the parade there will be a free screening of Love Simon at the River City Cinema. Later on at 7 P.M. the festivities move on to the Rock and Bowl.

“It’s for everybody, it’s a celebration. The community comes out and gets bigger and better every year. We really like the support that we’ve seen over the years,” says Hilton. “Let’s just celebrate and love one another and not judge.”

Pride weekend will be rounded off on Sunday with brunch at the Sawridge Inn’s Alexander Mackenzie Room, where donations will be collected for the food bank.
