The Peace River School Division is going to be displaying the Treaty 8 and Metis Nation flags at all of their schools.
The board of trustees passed the motion at their last meeting on October 17.
Board Chair Darren Kuester says in a statement that they decided to display the flags to quote “honor traditional land, Indigenous culture and to impact change and support reconciliation through education”.
He adds it’s a way for their schools to recognize the relationship they have with Indigenous people in the area.
The board had been considering raising the flags at their schools since 2018.
