The Province is beginning a series of meetings with business and community leaders from across rural Alberta to hear about what they need to promote economic development and prosperity in their communities.

Associate Minister of Rural Economic Development Nate Horner was on the Trending 55 Hot Seat and says they want rural Alberta to be a big part of their economic recovery.

“We want to have a real comprehensive consultation with Rural Alberta and that’s going to start this week. It’s going to be pretty big, we’re going to have 20 sessions, over 900 business and community leaders will be invited from different regions and an online survey will be running concurrently too. We’re hoping we can find out what’s working and what isn’t.

Horner says they expect to hear a lot of concerns about internet connectivity in rural areas.

“It’s something that was highlighted even by the Premier when he created this Associate Ministry and I think we’ve done some great work in the early days here. We’ve committed $150 million to rural connectivity and are engaging with the federal government and private enterprise to try and leverage that for Alberta. I think we’re already going in that direction.”
