The provincial government is funding projects to help Albertans get the skills needed to find good jobs and employers the skilled workers they need.

Labour Minister Tyler Shandro says the workforce partnerships program has them working with industry groups to prepare Albertans for in-demand jobs.

“These types of ways in partnering with employers, because sometimes the employers know the types of skills that they need. Whether it’s logistics they need, or help with adopting digitization types of skills, in working with those different groups to provide those skills to Albertans, it can help them overcome barriers to get jobs.”

Shandro says the province is investing $1.53 million into the workforce partnerships program.

He adds that they’re hoping the workforce partnerships can address come current issues in the labour market.

“A lot of folks unemployed still in the province with working with employers to fill these vacancies. We have a lot of vacancies right now in the province so we’re trying to help our employers with this labour shortage, but also at the same time there’s all these folks that we need to get back in the workforce. That’s exactly what we’re looking to overcome here.”
