Peace River’s Board ‘n’ Barrel Restaurant will be participating in a prestigious food festival this August.

They are one of 87 restaurants in the province featured on the “Alberta on the Plate: Dine Around Festival” taking place from August 6-15, 2021.

Alberta on the Plate showcases local restaurants that highlight locally made/grown products and source out from other producers, growers, breweries and distilleries around the province.

One of the Owners of Board ‘n’ Barrel, Kelly Whalen says it’s an amazing opportunity to feature their local farm-to-table type menu they have. “This year was really up and down with Covid-19, opening and closing, trying to maintain our integrity on providing good, local, Alberta food for out patrons.” Whalen says while this year had many bumps in the road they also won a Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce Award as well.

Board ‘n’ Barrel is one of only four restaurants on the festival line up in the northern Alberta region, and the farthest north as well! To learn more about Alberta on the Plate click here.

Board ‘n’ Barrel also recently started up a food truck in Peace River. Whalen says the response has been overwhelming. “We keep running out of food! So I think that’s a good sign.” Whalen says it’s an extension of what they serve at the restaurant, but food truck style.

They have specialty items such as Reuben hot dogs, chili dogs and fresh made tacos, burgers and poutines. The food truck can also be booked for events by calling 780-219-0972.

Whalen wants to thank the Peace Country for dining and supporting them through the pandemic. “We see people on a daily basis from High Level to McLennan and even High Prairie.” Whalen added.
