Peace Country Female Hockey League Not Playing This Season

The Peace Country Female Hockey League will not be playing this season.

League President Theresa Johnson says most of the teams in the league were unable to get any ice time for this season.

“At the multiplex in Grimshaw, there’s no adult skating at all so that shut down our team right away. A lot of the girls, that’s what they were faced with. When our league stretches from Slave Lake to Fort St. John, it’s a long driving distance and if only two or three teams could play, it just wasn’t feasible.”

Johnson says most seasons the league usually has between 8-12 teams playing.

She says they are remaining optimistic that they get back on the ice next year.

“I’m sure around July or August, we’ll be talking about it again and each team then will be trying to recruit girls. Some girls unfortunately probably won’t come back, sometimes if you don’t use it you lose it and we’ll lose some to that just because they don’t play. We’re hoping to see ice again, we’re certainly not ready to hang up our skates.”
