A local school teacher will be running for the NDP in Peace River during the next provincial election.

Liana Paiva says concerns around the province’s draft curriculum is what pushed her into running in the election.

“The NDP is going to scrap the curriculum that’s in place right now, the one that is not supported by educators, by the experts in curriculum, and by parents like myself. The NDP is promising to reestablish a relationship with all of the party members, like the people who have concerns over what our children should be learning for the future.”

Paiva says the curriculum “isn’t progressive and is not preparing our children for the future.”

She says that she intends to be available and open to all constituents.

“I also intend to visit all of my communities, because that’s the one thing I feel like we haven’t had the last three and a half years is with all our concerns, I feel like we all haven’t been seen or heard. That is my promise, is to be here and available so that people will feel like they actually have someone who wants to listen to them.”
