The Town of Peace River is going on an infrastructure spending spree.
Over 5 million dollars worth of projects were discussed at this week’s council meeting.

Approximately 1.8 million could be allocated soon for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Clarifier Upgrade.
The Clarifier is used to help remove heavier and larger particles for disposal.
$450,000 of it would be covered by provincial and federal grants.  The rest would land in the debt load.
It passed first reading by council.

Council also passed first reading for 1.4 million dollars budgeted to purchase a Quint Aerial Apparatus Firetruck for the Peace River Fire Department.
The town would receive $250,000 in provincial and federal grants, along with over $187,000 in other municipal funding.
The rest will come from the reserves or debt load.

Barring any unforeseen changes, these two items (Clarifier & Firetruck) will likely pass at a future council meeting.

The town also gave the next steps of approval to go ahead on a new Sand & Salt Shed, at a cost close to 1.4 million.
Grants will cover $600,000

Over $100,000 is will be allocated towards Athabasca Hall Archive Storage units.
Part of the process is having these units to move items over from the museum.

The town is also planning some Park and Playground upgrades.
$75,000 earmarked for replacement of the 103rd Street Playground on the South side.
$377,000 is to be spent on a park in Saddleback.
