NWJHL Playoffs Begin Tonight

The playoff matchups are now set in the NWJHL after the regular season wrapped up on the weekend.

Finishing first in the standings was the defending provincial champions, the Fort St. John Huskies. They rode a 35 game winning streak to get 77 points and will have a first round bye. Second place went to the Grande Prairie Wheat Kings with 67 points. The Sexsmith Vipers and Dawson Creek Kodiaks were tied for third with 57 points, but the Vipers get the tiebreaker as they had 28 wins while the Kodiaks had 26. The La Crete Lumber Barons finished their first season in fifth place with 39, followed by the North Peace Navigators with 31 and the Beaverlodge Blades 29. The Fairview Flyers missed the playoffs with a record of 3-35-4 for 10 points.

The first round is a best-of-five with the later rounds being a best-of-seven.

Sexsmith vs North Peace

Game 1 – Wednesday in Sexsmith (8 PM)
Game 2 – Friday in Sexsmith (8 PM)
Game 3 – Saturday in Peace River (8 PM)
Game 4 – February 27 in Peace River (if necessary)
Game 5 – March 1 in Sexsmith (if necessary)

Dawson Creek vs La Crete

Game 1 – Wednesday in Dawson Creek (8 PM)
Game 2 – Friday in Dawson Creek (8 PM)
Game 3 – Saturday in La Crete (8 PM)
Game 4 – Sunday in La Crete (if necessary)
Game 5 – March 1 in Dawson Creek (if necessary)

Grande Prairie vs Beaverlodge

Game 1 – Tuesday in Grande Prairie (8 PM)
Game 2 – Thursday in Grande Prairie (8 PM)
Game 3 – Saturday in Beaverlodge (8 PM)
Game 4 – February 27 in Beaverlodge (if necessary)
Game 5 – February 28 in Grande Prairie (if necessary)

The league champion will represent the league at the Alberta Junior B Provincials which will happen from April 6-9 in Okotoks.
