The Alberta NDP hosted a pub night on Tuesday at Krooked House in Grimshaw.

Local candidates Liana Paiva of the Peace River constituency and Megan Ciurysek for Central Peace – Notley were on hand.

Paiva, a teacher, moved to Peace River in 2008, and says that she immediately fell in love with the people and the region’s beauty.

Ciurysek was born and raised on a farm near Berwyn, and has a Master of Arts in Political Science.

The two candidates spoke in front of a packed house.  Important topics of discussion included the current state of healthcare. Major concerns were addressed regarding the region’s doctor shortages and emergency room closures.

Discussions around the room included thoughts on the current state of inflation, education, and the economy.

Overall it was a low key friendly affair, albeit a crowded one, with standing room only by the end of the program.

Afterwards, the candidates mingled with the supporters, answering questions, and noting what issues were important to each potential voter.

We caught up with Liana Paiva of Peace River, to tackle some of the big issues, and she shared the NDP’s plan if elected.

Megan Ciurysek of Central Peace – Notley, focused more on why she felt it was important that she run in this election, and how she can be a voice for the area.
