This week we are talking about the movie Guitar Lessons. This movie was filmed locally In High Level and the surrounding area. It is really cool to see them reference a lot of things that people in the area would know.  Hollywood movies always make references to other cities in the states that really don’t mean anything to us here in Canada. So, it was super awesome watching this and them making a reference to Valleyview…because I know that place!

Apart from the setting, the movie is about a Gruff old man played by Corb Lund who has lost his way. Throughout the movie, he is asked to give guitar lessons to a young boy. These lessons kickstart a journey of him becoming a better person and finding his way once again. That is the basic plot line going on but there are many other things that happen in the movie.

We get some comedic scenes that happen in a restaurant…which you can get a taste of in the trailer below. We also get some very emotional and deep messages that I don’t want to spoil and ruin the impact of.

Although It is not your big blockbuster Hollywood movie I really enjoyed it. I was thinking about the events and messages even after I left the theatre which if a movie is doing that…I think I did something right…

If you are from the area…you know what…even if you aren’t and are just visiting…go check this thing out!

It is a great local film to go see and I would also recommend going to see it with some friends or family because talking about what you just saw I feel like makes the movie even better.

Getting that after-movie discussion where you really deliberate on some of these topics and messages really helps solidify what the movie was trying to do…although it may be called guitar lessons it is about so much more.
