The Alberta Cancer Foundation has received some funding help for cancer patients in Northwestern Alberta.

Kim Falconer, the foundation’s director of fund development for the north, says they worked with the United Way to get a grant from the feds for $435 thousand to help cancer patients in the region.

“This is dedicated to patients of the Peace River Community Cancer Centre and the Grande Prairie Cancer Centre. It is allocated specifically for any of their emergency or basic needs, especially in regards to some of the social support they may require during this pandemic.”

“We’re dealing with a group of patients certainly that have additional immuno-compromised issues during their treatment. So what we hope this money will assist with is some of the additional costs that they face to ensure that they’re able to continue to undergo treatment and continue to move about safely.”

Falconer says the money help patients with food security issues, transportation to and from appointments and also for virtual services as well.
