Falher is one of several communities in the province receiving money for more affordable housing units.
Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services Jeremy Nixon says it’s part of their Affordable Housing Partnership Program which has funding coming from the federal government.
“We are investing $54 million into 17 projects across this province that will increase the number of affordable housing spaces by over 600 units. I’m confident that more units being available will make a big difference for Albertans.”
Nixon says having more spaces in smaller communities can take some pressure off the bigger centres.
“Part of our strategy is to make sure that we’re building out affordable housing and seniors lodges in some of our more rural and remote communities as well and to make sure that people can live in the community that they raise their families in and they built their lives in. We think that’s critical for our seniors and provide that dignity.”
Heart River Housing is getting $1.2 million to build news seniors apartments in Falher.
