MLA Rehn removed from UCP Caucus

Premier Jason Kenney is kicking Lesser Slave Lake MLA Pat Rehn out of the government caucus.

In a statement released by Kenney on his verified twitter account, he says in part, “I have repeatedly asked Mr. Rehn to be more present in his constituency. He has ignored calls from me, UCP caucus leadership, and his constituents to do so.”

Rehn is expected to continue serving as an independent MLA.

Two councils in the riding have expressed public frustration with Rehn, including the towns of Slave Lake and High Prairie.

Slave Lake Council wrote a letter to Rehn demanding his resignation last week, and High Prairie Council will be penning a letter asking for a better performance out of Rehn but are not asking for him to step down.

Rehn helped the East Prairie and Gift Lake Metis Settlements secure funding for various projects to the tune of around $4 million.

Rehn, and five other UCP MLAs, came under fire for leaving the country for a vacation when government regulations discourage non-essential travel.

The letter from Slave Lake calling for Rehn to step down came shortly after it was revealed that Rehn went to Mexico.

The Trending 55 Newsroom has reached out to Kenney, as well as Rehn for comment.
