Minor Hockey Development Season Getting Strong Response

Even with minor hockey having to operate a little differently right now, the Peace River area is still having most of its players taking part.

Troy Kish is the director of the U11 and U13 teams with Peace River Minor Hockey, he says they’ve received a strong response for their development season.

“We’ve had about 80 per cent of the entire association continue to keep going instead of dropping out. That was a fairly good surprise. Personally I was expecting 60-70 per cent, when I saw that 80 per cent number come out, I was happy to see that.”

Even with the limited set up they have to use right now, Kish says their players are glad to just be skating again.

“For my age groups at U11 and U13, they’re just happy to be out there skating and being out there with their buddies again. Of course we’re following the social distancing and all those protocols, but it’s been awesome to be out there with them.”

Kish is hopeful that by early March they could have full practices and scrimmage games taking place.
