The Province’s Minister of Jobs, the Economy and Innovation says there’s some growing optimism around the province’s economy rebounding once the pandemic is over.

Doug Schweitzer has been meeting several chambers of commerce around the province lately, including the Peace River chamber earlier this week, and says that there’s growth in a number of areas in the economy.

“It’s not just in our big cities, it’s not just in Edmonton and Calgary, we’re seeing this in our mid-sized centres like Peace River. It’s starting to happen across the province so it’s really exciting to see innovation happening in Alberta. We’re know as an entrepreneurial province and it’s really holding true.”

He says the second half of this year could see a lot of growth and job creation in Alberta.

“People who have kept their employment, they’ve actually saved more money than they’ve ever saved before on average. We’re expecting that it will be burning a little hole in their wallets and we’re expecting a significant amount of spending to happen in the second half of this year by those Albertans and Canadians that have been able to save money over the last year.”
