The Municipal District of Peace is joining an effort to explore nuclear power.

The Lac Cardinal Regional Economic Development Board penned a letter to council for its December 15 meeting.

Councillors agreed to support the exploration of small nuclear reactors

The topic of nuclear energy came up in August of 2020 when the province signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the technology of small modular nuclear reactors.

“The economic board wanted to make sure that all of the communities were on board for any preliminary exploratory work,” says MD of Peace Reeve, Bob Willing.

Willing adds that he was in full support of Bruce Power building a reactor in the region almost 10 years ago.

“In my mind, it would have been a great boon for the area,” states Willing.

“Unfortunately, it did not work.”

Here is a copy of the letter that was presented to council on December 15.
