UPDATE – May 19, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.
The fire in the Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 remains under control. The site is being monitored for flareups, which will be extinguished as they arise. Due to the hazards posed to health and safety, public access to this site is prohibited – primary access locations will be barricaded and we kindly request the public’s cooperation in respecting this closure.
As a reminder, the wildfire danger remains EXTREME. With warm, dry conditions and gusty winds, continue to use caution as a wildfire will ignite easily and spread quickly. There is a Fire Ban and OHV Restriction in effect – visit www.albertafirebans.ca for more information. These measures aim to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires and helping firefighters focus on existing or new wildfires. While this may change long-weekend holiday plans for some, it is extremely important to respect the fire ban and help reduce human-caused wildfires.
Smoky conditions will persist in our area and along highways, anyone with health concerns should visit https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/news/page14070.aspx or call 811 for health advice from Alberta Health Link. Before travelling, check www.511.Alberta.ca for information the latest road conditions or closures.
Continue to be prepared and check for updates, which will be provided daily at www.mdfairview.ca and on Facebook until conditions improve.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation – have a great long holiday weekend!
