Women aged 50-74 are the most at risk group for developing breast cancer, and women in the Grimshaw and Peace River region will have access to screening mammography services with a mobile unit in the communities next month.

A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast and has proven to be the most effective way to detect breast cancer. Early detection allows for a greater number of options for treatment and a better chance of survival.

A mobile mammography trailer will be stationed at the Peace River Community Health Centre from April 15-17 and 19-20 for mammography services and at the Grimshaw Berwyn Community Health Complex on April 21-23 and 26-27.

Alberta Health Services is partnering with Screen Test to provide additional cancer screening services, with cervical and colorectal cancer screening in Grimshaw and Peace River on April 21 and 22.

A female Nurse Practitioner will be providing the screenings. Cervical and colorectal consultations will be available on April 21 or 22 in Peace River, while colorectal consultations will be available in Grimshaw in the morning of April 22.

Appointments can be made for mammography, cervical and colorectal screenings by calling Screen Test at 1-800-667-0604.
