The High Level RCMP is investigating a situation that left one man dead.

According to the detachment, it got a 911 call at 7:30 on Monday evening of a disturbance at a residence on the Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement.

Another 911 call was made around five minutes later saying there was an incident involving firearms.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 28-year-old Brett Daniel Sowan of Paddle Prairie suffered a “firearms related injury” and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Randall James Cardinal, 26, of Paddle Prairie was arrested and is facing charges of second degree murder.

He will be in a High Level Courtroom on Monday.

The detachment adds that the Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.

The Mounties say that since this case is now before the courts, they can provide no further information.
