Central Peace-Notley MLA Todd Loewen has a new role as the province’s minister of Forestry, Parks and Tourism.

He says one of his main focuses is on improving tourism all across the province, including in the Peace Region.

“I think what happens when you have good tourism, then you have good opportunity for economic investment too. One thing that’s being talked about more and more all the time is Highway 686 between Fort McMurray and Peace River to be able to connect that through. I think that will be a really good advantage for tourists so that they can travel through the northeast and the northwest part of Alberta and be able to make a loop through.”

When it comes to Tourism, Loewen there’s a lot of opportunities for our region to see growth in that sector.

“When we look at the Peace Country with Dunvegan and stuff like that, Notikewin Park up along the Peace River, we have so many thing to see that I think people all around the world would love to take a look at and have a chance to travel through and see that. We have a lot of people coming into the area for various things but it’s nice to have that tourist value happening.”

Also covered under Loewen’s portfolio are the forestry sector, logging, wildfire management, and provincial parks and recreation areas.
