UPDATE – Loewen has been removed from the Party and will now sit as an Independent MLA.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Todd Loewen says the frustrations he’s heard from constituents over the past year and a half lead to the letter he released this week.

The Central Peace-Notley MLA announced that he was stepping down as the UCP Caucus Chair and called from Premier Jason Kenney to resign.

He told the Trending 55 Newsroom that concerns over the direction of the government have quote “gotten worse and worse over time.”

“This past week here, we’ve had two cancelled caucus meetings and caucus members haven’t been told why. It seems like things were getting worse and worse, we were losing good people in the party, I just thought it was time that I stepped out and basically said what’s being said behind closed doors.”

“We have a good party, I was elected by the people of my constituency to represent the UCP Party. We have some things to fix, there’s no doubt about that but I want to see us fix these things, I want to see us be strong and united going forward and make sure that we form government in 2023.”

Loewen says even with this move, he’s still fully committed to serving the people of his riding.
