Loewen Among UCP MLA’s Criticizing Restrictions

Central Peace-Notley’s Todd Loewen is part of a group of UCP MLA’s speaking out against Premier Jason Kenney and the new COVID-19 restrictions announced on Tuesday.

The group is calling the government’s decision to go back to Step 1 of the re-opening plan “the wrong decision”.

“In early 2021, the government announced what they believed to be a clear path forward to reopen our province,” says a letter addressed to all Albertans released on Wednesday.

“It took the public health threat of COVID-19 seriously, and provided a step-by-step plan to lift restrictions and restore confidence for our small businesses and communities,” the letter continues.

The letter says the politicians have heard from constituents that they want the elected officials to defend “their livelihoods and freedoms as Albertans.”

They say they have brought these concerns to the government, but the province’s approach has stayed the same.

The letter also says the group will continue to push for what it calls “a transparent path forward.”

Loewen shared the letter on his Facebook page yesterday.
