La Crete man dead after single vehicle incident

***RCMP RELEASE*** –  Fort Vermillion, Alta.

 On July 3, 2021, at 6:13 a.m., Fort Vermilion RCMP received a call to a single vehicle roll over on Highway 697 near the intersection with Rural Road 144.

Fort Vermilion RCMP, along with emergency services, attended the scene, and located a single vehicle that had come to rest in the ditch. The 18-year-old male driver of the vehicle had been ejected from the vehicle and EMS provided first aid and transported him to hospital with critical injuries. A second occupant, a 16-year-old male, was treated by EMS for serious injuries and taken to hospital. On July 4, 2021, the 18-year-old male from La Crete, Alta., died as a result of his injuries.

The cause of this single vehicle rollover remains under investigation by the Fort Vermilion RCMP, along with the assistance of the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist; however, the preliminary investigation indicates alcohol and speed are believed to have been factors contributing to this fatal collision.

The name of the deceased will not be released.
