Town of Peace River officials are urging residents to stay off the ice on the river.
Yesterday afternoon, emergency crews responded to two youths out on the ice near the open water, just north of the highway bridge.
With warmer temperatures and the spring ice break-up approaching, the ice can be very unstable and unpredictable in its thickness and strength.
Anyone who falls through would be swept away in the river current and trapped under the ice, without chance of rescue or recovery.
