A home south of High Level was burned down of Tuesday afternoon.

High Level fire crews responded a call of a structure fire at 3:00 pm, and the first unit was on the scene within six minutes. The fire reportedly started in the garage of the home and quickly spread to the main house.

Crews established a defensive formation around the house using wide diameter hoses and battled the fire from the outside of the house. Ultimately, the crews were unable to save the house and it was completely burned down. One person was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene, but no one was injured.

The area of the fire proved to be a challenge, as access to water was limited, and they relied on neighboring crews’ supplies for assistance. The High Level crew got help from the Fort Vermilion Fire Department, who responded within an hour.

The cause of the fire was found to be accidental, and was caused by a fuel ignition on an off-highway vehicle which was being serviced in the garage. Fire crews were on the scene of the fire until about 8:30pm.
