October 19 to 24 is Small Business Week! The COVID-19 pandemic has affected businesses this year indefinitely; some for worse or better. The Hines Creek General Store actually saw an influx in sales this year, mostly in their grocery department and their meat cutting.

Dale Stark, owner of the Hines Creek General Store says even though they are located in a small community, they were able to get most of the essentials at the beginning of March when the pandemic started like hand sanitizer and flour. “We’ve improved our cleaning in the store, and it’s been really, really steady for us.” noted Stark on upping the ante for new cleaning measures to keep customers safe.

Stark added posting on their Facebook during the pandemic helped their customer clientele grow past just locals, “We’ve had people from Valleyview, Grande Prairie, Manning and Peace River come here, our area has become a lot bigger.”

Stark says the busy season has just started with their meat cutting, as hunting season begins. “Lots of people are now buying local beef and you can find our meat in over 100 stores in Alberta.” Stark says they can bring in meat 24/7 for people throughout the week so no meat gets spoiled.

The Hines Creek General Store looks forward to continue serving the Peace Region whether it be for custom meat cutting or stopping buy to grab some groceries.
