High Prairie Child & Youth Expo Happening Tomorrow

The High Prairie Regional Child & Youth Expo 2017 is coming up this weekend.

The event, which happens every two years, is being put on by the High Prairie & District Children’s Resource Council.

The Trending 55 Newsroom spoke to Lindsay Davies, who is the organization’s Executive Director. In both 2013 and 2015, it was simply called the Early Year’s Expo.

“We extend the information and resources to a broader spectrum of families within the region,” said Davies. “This year’s theme is ‘Raising Tomorrow – Safe and Healthy Communities,’ and it takes place on Saturday, September 9, 2017, from 10 AM to 4 PM at St. Andrew’s School.”

Davies says there are a variety of venues being provided at this year’s Expo.

“We have a Baby Fair, which includes Everything Baby information and more,” she said. “We have a ‘Celebrate Me, I’m Three!” early childhood development assessment fair, which features fun activitiy-based assessment centres.

“We also have a new venue, which us called a Mind Builder,” Davies continued. “This is more focused on our older children and youth, with much of the focus being on mental health, resiliency and confidence building.”

As well, this year’s event will also feature an event called ‘You Can Play Too!’, which will feature information on play-based parent-child activities.

She says the previous two events have seen some tremendous success.

“We had a large number of families, and a large number of vendors in the trade show during our first year,” said Davies. “And two years later, we had another great expo, tried some different themes, and it was well-received by the community.

“This year, we’re going with entirely just centres,” she continued. “We have a lot more food vendors this year, and we have a lot of activities for every different age group, and we’re hoping to reach as many families with our communities as we can.”

Davies says she hope’s this year’s event is a record-breaking success.
