High Level’s Mackenzie Dachuk is continuing her hockey career at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton.

After not being able to play games last season, Dachuk says this season has been an interesting one for her and her teammates.

“This is our first year competing in the Canada West division. In my first year, we competed in the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference) so it was kinda nice in a way, we were just transitioning into the Canada West. We’ve been doing pretty good.”

Dachuk says she’s seen a lot of growth in the women’s game over the past few years, saying there wasn’t a lot of other girls playing the sport when she was growing up.

“I wasn’t really exposed to a lot of other female hockey players until I moved out of High Level. I’ve noticed even in the smaller towns, more younger girls are wanting to come out and play the sport. I think in my role now as a college athlete, I think it’s important that I try to spread awareness of the game to younger girls that they can play the sport and fall in love just like I did.”
