HFCRD Participating in Mental Health Pilot Project
(January 11, 2023) The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) will be piloting a mental health and wellness project at St. Stephen’s School in Valleyview. The division learned it was successful in a grant application to Alberta Education. The province issued a call for applications for its “Mental Health in Schools Pilot.”

“When this stream of funding became available, we had to apply and we thank the Alberta Government,” said Superintendent Betty Turpin. “We are partnering with James Dunn of Grace Psychological Services. James has been a psychologist in the Valleyview area for twenty-six (26) years so he has a strong understanding of the needs of our students.”
The grant will provide $374,000 over two years to hire two full-time wellness workers on site, as well as cover the costs of administering the program.

In the meantime, Turpin talks with Trending 55 about the program, the grant money, and the need for the services.
