St. Thomas More Replacement School Planning Dollars

The Board reviewed the Capital Planning Process for the new replacement school for St. Thomas More in Fairview.

The Ad Hoc Committee will be meeting at a date to be determined, to discuss the Capital Planning Process, and go through the steps and timeline of the project.

Things to consider will include community consultation & partnerships, the design of the new school, and the total cost of each step of the process.

Three-Year Facility Capital Plan

The Three Year Facility Capital Plan was presented by Secretary-Treasurer Zachary Silva, and approved by the board.

Silva highlighted that the plan contains only two priorities:

– The first priority remains a new school for St. Andrew’s in High Prairie.

– The second priority is the modernization of Good Shepherd School in Peace River.

“This deliberate approach reflects the critical nature of our top priority—the replacement of St. Andrew’s School in High Prairie—where facility condition issues demand immediate attention for student safety, educational programming, and fiscal responsibility. By concentrating our advocacy on this essential project and the complementary modernization of Good Shepherd School, we aim to emphasize the urgency and importance of these specific needs rather than diluting our focus across multiple requests.”

Roundtable on the Student Engagement Topics

The Board of Trustees held a roundtable discussion on the issues brought forward by students at the latest Student Engagement Meeting that took place virtually on February 25th.

One of the requests from students was to bring back paper towels and eliminate hand dryers. The main concern was the noise of the dryers disrupting classes near bathrooms.

Pros and Cons of Hand Dryers vs. Paper Towels will be researched by administration.
