Grimshaw Huskies beat Manning Mets in Exciting Extra Innings Wildcard Game

The Wheatbelt Baseball League Playoffs started off with a bang.

The Grimshaw Huskies squeaked past the Manning Mets 4-3 in a thrilling extra inning wildcard game on Wednesday night.

The scoreboard showed a 2-2 tie after the 2nd and 3-3 after the 4th.  No scoring took place after that until the extra inning.

The Huskies started off the 8th with a clutch two out single to score the go ahead run.
However, the Mets weren’t going away easy.  The home team put runners at second and third with only one out, but couldn’t cash them in.

A massive celebration of green took place on the mound after the final out was recorded.
The Huskies were excited to finally make it past the wildcard round, after playing the Mets 4 years in a row.

Ty Wiebe was awarded the win after pitching all 8 innings.  He also helped his cause with a 4 hit night, leading all batters.

Grimshaw now looks ahead to the top seeded Peace River Stampeders in the semifinals.

Wiebe says the key to beating the Stamps will be playing tight defensively, and putting the bat on the ball… “can’t score runs without putting the ball in play.”

We chatted with Ty Wiebe after the game:
