The Town of Grimshaw’s recent council meeting addressed several key community initiatives:

**Peace River Nuclear Project:** Council discussed the public consultation process initiated by the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada the Canadian Nuclear Safety regarding the proposed Peace Nuclear Power Project. As a member of the Peace Regional Energy Committee, Grimshaw contributed to a regional submission supporting the project and provided its own comments. The Town emphasized the need to prepare for regional growth by addressing transportation infrastructure, conducting a detailed housing needs assessment—including accommodations for the construction workforce—and ensuring access to education and healthcare services.

**Grimshaw Legion Commemorative Crosswalk:** Council approved the Grimshaw Legion’s request to install a commemorative crosswalk at the corner of 47th Avenue and 50th Street, honoring veterans’ service and sacrifice. Further discussions will explore potential signage and the honorary naming of a section of 47th Avenue.

**PRAMP Presentation:** Representatives from the Peace River Area Monitoring Program (PRAMP) updated Council on ongoing air quality monitoring. A portable monitoring station, currently near the Grimshaw administration office, will soon relocate to Peace River, with a sensor remaining in Grimshaw. A large air quality lantern displaying real-time data is located in the Grimshaw Municipal Library. Residents can view live air quality data at prampairshed.ca.

**Sale of Asphalt Recycler:** Council approved the sale of a 2018 asphalt recycler and utility trailer through an upcoming Ritchie Bros auction, as the equipment has remained unused and more cost-effective pothole repair methods are now utilized.

**Peace River Pow Wow Sponsorship:** Council approved a $500 contribution to the 2025 Peace River Traditional Pow Wow, scheduled for June 7–8 at the Fairgrounds in Northern Sunrise County.

**Seniors Week:** Council declared June 2–8, 2025, as Seniors Week, recognizing seniors’ valuable contributions. Local event information is available on the event calendar at grimshaw.ca.

**Public Works Week:** Council declared May 18–24, 2025, as National Public Works Week. A community barbecue will be held on May 20, 2025, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Town of Grimshaw Administration Office parking lot, celebrating Public Works Week, Alberta Crime Prevention Week, and Municipal Government Day. Everyone is welcome to attend.

**Alberta Rural Health Week:** Council declared May 26–30, 2025, as Alberta Rural Health Week, recognizing rural healthcare professionals’ vital contributions. The Grimshaw Regional Healthcare Attraction and Retention Committee will honor local healthcare professionals throughout the week.

**Peace Library Systems Agreement:** Council approved the updated agreement with the Peace Library System, outlining revised terms for regional collaboration, service delivery, and cost-sharing among member municipalities.

**ATCO Franchise Report:** Council reviewed the 2024 ATCO Electric Franchise Report, which provided updates on system reliability, community contributions, climate adaptation initiatives, and an overview of franchise fee revenues.

These initiatives reflect Grimshaw’s commitment to community development and regional collaboration.
