Frustrating Season Ends For Navs

Another season for the North Peace Navigators has not ended the way they wanted it to end.

The ice is being taken out of the Baytex Energy Centre this week meaning the team won’t be in action again until the fall.

Navs GM Mike Fosty says it was a frustrating season all around for the team with the health restrictions limiting the season to just two games.

“I know it was frustrating for the boys just sitting around waiting to see what was gonna happen and that sort of stuff. They all wished that they could get back on the ice for a little bit, but because of the COVID restrictions that our province laid out, we just couldn’t get back to the ice.”

Even with all that going on, Fosty says they were holding out hope until the bitter end.

“We were hoping last Monday that they would’ve lifted restrictions on adult hockey because we were lined up to go for one last skate as a team. We were always looking to move ahead but with the restrictions and the way COVID ran, we just weren’t able to do it.”

The frustrations for the team started last spring when the start of the pandemic lead to the cancellation of the league championship between the Navs and Fort St. John.
