Fosty Retiring After 17 Years With Navs

After 17 seasons with the North Peace Navigators, General Manager Mike Fosty has announced his retirement.

He says he has a lot of good memories from his time with the club.

“My time on the bench when Darcy Haugen was here, winning a provincial title (in 2016) and representing the organization at westerns (the Keystone Cup) and winning a bronze medal there. Those are real highlights for me, but every year is a highlight just because of the success we’ve had, the people around the organization and the kids themselves that played. They grow on you and it’s just like having one of your kids.”

This past season was a little different for the team, finishing in last place during the regular season with an 11-26-3 record before getting swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Grande Prairie Kings.

Despite that, Fosty feels the organization has a bright future.

“Not playing for two years, a lot of kids hadn’t been on the ice. We were a really young team this year just because last year we would’ve had a team full of 20 year olds and we lost a bunch of them. It was tough to get through, but there’s some kids that are coming up that we AP’d that hopefully will come back and play for us next year to help strengthen the organization.”
