Flood Watch Issued

Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast for Northern Alberta over the next few days placing flood watches for areas near Sousa Creek and tributaries of the Peace River. Places east of High Level and south as Red Earth Creek could expect 150 mm of accumulated rainfall from Tuesday, June 15 until Thursday, June 17. The sudden increase in rainfall may cause smaller watercourses to rise rapidly and could cause overland flooding and ponding.

Watercourses from Carcajou to Peace Point are also under watch as sudden water level increases may occur. Historical observations in the effected areas are limited, though with the high amount of rainfall predicted, a large rise in water levels is likely to occur. The Peace River is predicted to rise by up one metre but the flood watch does not extend to the mainstem of the Peace River.
