Federal Candidate Profile – Leslie Penny

penny-2

We’re continuing our look at the local candidates for the upcoming federal election.

Leslie Penny is running for the Liberals in Peace River-Westlock, she says that one issue she’s heard a lot from people in the riding about creating jobs around the region’s natural resources.

“I’m part of community futures and that organization is there to develop small businesses which are the driving force of our economy. Community Futures helps small businesses get going and some of those small businesses reason to be is to transform natural resources in products that can be sold.”

Penny previously ran for the Liberals in the 2019 federal election, she finished in third place with just over 6% of the votes.

She says that her experiences from that election are helping her here.

“I believe that we certainly need the Liberal candidate to provide choice for people and I am retired, I’m giving up my role as a town councillor (in Barrhead) so it seemed like an optimal time to give it one more try. I think when you try once and you don’t succeed, you should at least try once more.”
