Fatal Collision at South Tallcree First Nation Remains Under Investigation

Fort Vermilion RCMP continues to investigate a motor vehicle collision that took place at the South Tallcree First Nation on Tuesday, August 29, 2017.

An 18-year-old Fort Vermilion man and a 17-year-old boy from North Tallcree First Nation who was driving the pick-up truck involved in the crash both passed away at the scene. A third victim, a 17-year-old from South Tallcree First Nation, was airlifted to Edmonton for treatment of serious injuries. No other injuries were reported in regards to this incident.

At about 2:30 that afternoon, police responded to reports of a possible impaired driver travelling though the community at a high rate of speed. Officers first located a vehicle matching the description, and attempted to catch up to it.

After two more attempts, one witness reported the suspect vehicle had lost control and it landed into the ditch. Two Mounties immediately located the vehicle and began CPR and other life saving measures on two critically injured occupants until EMS arrived.

An RCMP Collision Reconstructionist is assisting with the investigation. As well, Victim Support Services is providing assistance for the families of the victims.
