The town of Fairview has passed their Tax Rate By-law.

CAO Daryl Greenhill says the Tax rate will remain the same again.

Greenhill also states that rates haven’t increased in 9 years, while being lowered twice in that time-frame.

A BYLAW OF THE TOWN OF FAIRVIEW TO AUTHORIZE THE RATES OF TAXATION TO BE LEVIED TO
ASSESSABLE PROPERTY WITHIN THE TOWN OF FAIRVIEW FOR THE 2022 TAXATION YEAR
WHEREAS the Town of Fairview has prepared and adopted detailed estimates of the municipal
revenues and expenditures as required, at the council meeting held on April 19, 2021;
and
WHEREAS the estimated municipal expenditures and transfers set out in the budget for the Town
of Fairview for 2022 total $7,743,243; and
WHEREAS the estimated municipal revenues and transfers from all sources other than taxation is
estimated at $4,541,709, and the balance of $3,201,534 is to be raised by general
municipal taxation; and
WHEREAS the estimated requisitions are:
Alberta School Foundation Fund (ASFF) and Opted Out School Boards

WHEREAS Council of the Town of Fairview is required each year to levy on the assessed value of all
taxable property, tax rates enough to meet the estimated expenditures and the
requisitions; and
WHEREAS Council is authorized to classify assessed property, and to establish different rates of
taxation in respect to each class of property, subject to the Municipal Government Act,
Chapter M-26, Revised Statutes of Alberta, 2000; and
WHEREAS Section 357(1) of the Municipal Government Act provides that the Municipal Tax Bylaw
“may specify a minimum amount payable as property tax” and the Town of Fairview has
resolved to establish a minimum tax; and
WHEREAS the assessed value of all taxable property in the Town of Fairview as shown on the
assessment roll is:

NOW THEREFORE under the authority of the Municipal Government Act, Council of the Town of
Fairview, in the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows:
1. That the Chief Administrative officer is hereby authorized to levy the following rates of taxation
on the assessed value of all taxable property as shown on the assessment roll of the Town of
Fairview:

2. Where the application of the tax rates established by the bylaw to the assessment of any taxable
property would result in a total municipal levy payable of less than $550, the minimum
municipal tax shall be assessed at $550 and deemed to be the minimum municipal tax payable.
3. All property taxes levied in 2022 shall be due and payable on June 30, 2022, except for any
properties on the tax installment plan.
4. A penalty of 15% will be imposed on all property tax amounts levied in 2022 that remain unpaid
after June 30, 2022.
5. A penalty of 15% will be imposed on all outstanding property tax amounts that remain unpaid
after December 31, 2022.
6. This bylaw shall take effect upon the date of third and final reading.

Meanwhile, Director of Community Services Caroline Cleave stated in her report that events are getting prepared for during the summer months.

Events like the Community Tailgate Sale at Hemstock Park, Canada Day Festivities, and the Summer’s End Festival are in the planning stages and will take place in the area.

Event Updates:
Music in the Park/ Community Tailgate Sale: May 14, June 25, July 16, and August 13
HemstockPark l:30-3:30pm
Live music in the park will be provided with fun draws and local nonprofits selling ice cream or
drinks.
The tailgate sale allows people to clean out their homes of unwanted items. There is no charge for
this event as they bring their own set up including tables & chairs. This sale takes place on south
side of park at same time as the music is playing.
Canada Day Fireworks Display: June 30, 2022, at 11:59 pm
• Planning is underway for this event.
Fireworks display will be provided at the Northwestern Polytechnic Campus on the south end by
the pond.
Residents can view this show from the Aquatic Centre/Fitness Centre or Industrial Park.
• It was noted last year that most areas of town can view right from their homes.
Canada Day: July 1, 2022
• Historic Dunvegan Park will have a variety of entertainment during the day, general admissions
will apply.
• The Fairview Regional Aquatic Centre will be hosting free swimming from 12 noon-5:30pm with
Canada Day cake and swag for all swimmers.
• The Fairview Theatre will host live local music from 1 lam-12:30pm, a family movie will run
from lpm-3pm and live music will commence from 3pm-5:00pm.
Celebrations of the Queens Royal Jubilee will also be held at the Community Centre during this
day and will include Tea/Cookies/ crumpets/Ice Cream and a visit-photo opportunity with our
Queen impersonator.
• There will be a Royal Jubilee children’s coloring contest prior to this event that winners will be
given the opportunity to attend the event and be knighted by the Town ofFairview Queen.
Summers End Festival: Saturday August 27.2022
• Planning and sponsorship recruitment is underway.
• Confirmed entertainment to date: Family Entertainer/ Magician Steve Harmer (3 main stage
shows), Hula Hoop Circus (circus activities, street rovers, main stage shows), Inflatables for
“Kids Zone” (including virtual golfing as well as a Wild West Shoot out booth and a Velcro
Wall), Trinity Body Art (face painters), Fairview Flyers hosting beer gardens with Big Guitar
(live band), Spin & Spun (cotton candy).
Community connections active with many calls, inquiries, and submissions.
Local and outlying area connections are already filling outdoor vendor spaces.
• Second Stage entertainment recruitment is also ongoing.
• This festival is the 10th anniversary celebration with a silver/blue theme, party hats/horns,
anniversary slab cakes, photo montages from previous festivals as well as balloons, bracelets, and
tattoos.
