Three subjects in the province’s K-6 draft curriculum will be implemented starting in September 2022.

Education Minister Adriana LaGrange says while they’re still developing the Social Studies curriculum, the ones for English Language Arts, Math, and Pysical Education will start being used next fall.

“This is very complementary to the work that we’re doing on addressing learning disruption loss in literacy and numeracy. We’ve addressed it through a pilot program early last spring and then again this fall with $45 million given out to schools for grades 1-3 learning loss targeted supports.”

As for what’s happening on the Social Studies part, LaGrange says that they’re continuing engage with different groups on what they want the curriculum to look like.

“We’ve brought forward a new Social Studies blueprint and that really looks at how we distribute the information across the grades. What we were hearing on the Social Studies draft that we had put forward last spring was that there was too much learning too quickly for our students and that we needed to just pace it out better.”

We talked in detail with the Minister about the curriculum process, you can hear the full discussion below.
