A new online platform has been launched by the province to help families get supports and services for children with disabilities.
Jason Nixon, the Minister of Seniors, Community and Social Services, says they wanted to eliminate the waiting lists for families looking to get supports.
“The biggest way that we’re going to be able to accomplish that is by the new portal that we’ve announced which will be able to make sure that families can quickly connect to the department, can navigate through what is a complex system as easily as possible and be able to make sure that we get these children the services that they and their families need.”
Nixon says that this will make the application process much more faster and streamlined.
“We’re talking about knocking off years off of the wait list for these families. It’s totally unacceptable that the wait list has got this long and the time period has got this long. By us being able to do this, now we’ll be able to make sure that families will be able to get services for these children as soon as possible. Sometimes within days, most of the time within months unlike in the past which was taking years.”
